Oh, guess what? Technology is cheaper later. Oh. My. God. This is apart of business but Jobs blinked. He was gouging the geek and when he ran through he geeks with money and his sales dropped, he dropped the price. Of course the geeks were pissed.
You stood in line. You have been around tech long enough to know the price will drop. So what it was quick. Get over it. AT&T should get a rebate for all of the unlocked phones that will screw their share over the next little while.
Though I give Jobs/Apple credit for making a good business decision. This is an instore credit. If they can sell iPod’s and other equipment at other stores for the same price as their stores and website, there has to be a huge marke up. So the store credit of a hundred dollars is only about $25-$45. Brilliant.

This is why I don’t buy things when they are hot and new! Nintendo 64–three years after launch, DVD–1.5-4 years, XBOX–two and a half years after launch. And the 360, Wii, or PS3? hehe. See you in 2008 or 9.
Savy of Apple to do the store cred thing. Lots of places are doing that–usually as a stop gap for shop lifting and fraud. If the money was worth it’s value then you’d be able to use store credit on the at-cost price. But then that would open up a whole new form of fraudulent behavior. Imagine people returning one stereo to buy a better one at cost. And I imagine there’s a world of mess that I’ve not even considered.
