What Not To Do Before A Fight

Brett Favre And The Packers

I don’t understand how so many people flipped on Favre so fast. When he retired he I knew he would change his mind when August came around. I was wrong. It happened in July.

There is a lot that we don’t know that has happened behind the scenes but they almost made it to the Super Bowl with him. He isn’t washed up. I wanted them to let him go somewhere else where he had a chance but then the amazing 2007 season happened.

I find it stupid the way the Packers have handled it and I do feel bad for Rodgers but Brett got them back into contention last year. Sure they picked up quarterbacks in the draft but so what? Favre changed his mind. Use him or trade him. You can’t come out and say he is going to be a back up to Rodgers without him even playing. This is the country where achievement is rewarded.

Of course if they don’t give Brett the starter position I won’t believe it was honestly decided. It isn’t a great spot for any of them to be in but it is here so deal with it. Give the winning quarterback the job and get on with life.

He is not Cher. He is Michael Jordan and he wants to play. Idiots.

NEWS ALERT: “Rampage” Jackson At Gunpoint With Police Then Arrested

TMZ has a picture of Jackson on the ground with cops pointing their guns at him. Full Gallery here. Even more damaging is that he was driving the RampageTruck™ with his picture and Toyo Tires emblazoned on the side.  Not the best car to run in.  I figure with that logic there is a 32.333% (repeating of course) chance that alcohol was involved.

Cops gave chase and eventually caught up and charged him with felony hit and run and felony evading arrest.

First Forrest beats him, now this.  Why would you run from the cops?  Time will tell what really happened as it burns through the internet.  Have fun with this one Dana.

UPDATE: Here is the newspaper that might likely get the best updates since it is their town.

Matt Lindland On Kimbo Slice

What people don’t understand is that against the right competition anyone looks competent. Kimbo agrees that he isn’t at his peak yet and he still has a lot to learn. Kimbo has gotten more attention than he deserves for his record but that is what promoters do. That is why Floyd Mayweather Jr. was in the WWE ring.

Kimbo has natural talent but the point of the UFC is to learn what works. Just boxing and striking rarely pans out. Kimbo has his age against him as well but he needs to learn the aspects of the ground game. Case in point, Brock Lesnar is an exceptionally talented athlete with a wrestling background. He was caught in a somewhat simplistic heel hook. In a year that kind of thing probably won’t happen again.

I think this is the only issue fighter have with Kimbo and it is really with the promoters. Kimbo doesn’t say he can beat anyone out there and I applaud him. The fighters are also annoyed that the public doesn’t get that. In his prime Mike Tyson would not have been able to step in the Octagon and expect to beat a champion.

Will UFC Be Saved By YouTube?

UFC will have a free show on Spike TV July 19th. This is counter programming to the new MMA promotion called Affliction: Banned. Some MMA fans call this one of the best fight lineups around but will that be enough, in summer months with other things going on, to get people to plunk $40 for some questionable fights.

As a UFC fan I can’t stand Tim Sylvia. He is a tall lumbering idiot which is about what Matt Hughes called him when he saw him for the first time. Tim will fight Fedor who is supposed to be the best heavyweight out there. But I thought Cro Cop was the next coming of Jesus and he had his ass handed to him. Randy Couture left the UFC to fight Fedor. The UFC knows exactly how important this is and that is why they are doing everything they can to block it. What other compelling reason is there to watch Affliction: Banned unless you just want to watch MMA?

So do you plunk the money down and hope the fights are good and that there isn’t all of the crap that CBS put together with EliteXC or just find it later online. Maybe low quality but still you get to see a fight if there is any real importance.

The rest of these guys are fighters that the UFC doesn’t want. Rothwell looked unimpressive in the IFL to me. Matt Lindland is a good fighter but boring to watch. Babalu is a tatted up ass who wouldn’t let go of a choke after his opponent tapped and the ref was pulling and yelling for him to stop. It cost him $25,000.

The resurgence of the UFC is because the casual watcher learned about Forrest Griffin and Stephen Bonnar. This will go down in history as what made the UFC in my opinion.

I believe that YouTube will actually help the UFC keep it’s place at the top until the smaller promotions can figure out a way to get you to care about their fighters. They try to do it using cast offs and freak shows or at least that is how it looks to the casual observer. And you can catch it a day or so later on YouTube. But if you care who will win between Griffin and J

Give the UFC credit for their adaptability from The Ultimate Fighter to quickly putting a fight together with just over a months notice to counter program. Now if the UFC would put up some more fights on YouTube instead of trying to charge $1.99 for an unknown undercard matchup so we could learn about the fighter and care about his wins and loses, then the UFC would be hitting on all cylinders for now.
